Morning News

54 refugees (innocent elderly & children) killed from the bombing raid in Lebanon V.S. Fight over MINIMUM WAGE here in the united states.

FUDGE.

most people in this world don't know how lucky they are. all they want in their life is MORE, MORE & MORE.

more money, higher status, MORE EVERYTHING. i tell you, even the whole world is given to them, i bet you they would start asking for MARS.

these UNCONTENTED PEOPLE should just be thrown into proverty and let them APPRECIATE what they used to have.

i hate it when people keep on complaining about their wages. fricking damn irritating.

hey c'mom. life is MUCH MUCH MUCH BIGGER than what we think it is. look further out of your small pathetic little zone.. stop focusing on small little issues in your life.

My HOME

if i'm in singapore now, i definitely won't be @ home at this time.

IT'S SATURDAY! the typical day would be to have dinner with family or friends, meet up with others for coffee and then chill out at night.

there are no singaporeans in my surrounding areas --- life's shitty boring.

since life is crappy boring here, i decided to entertain myself by doing my research on SINGAPORE.

i found this website that recommends tourists on the 20 Unique things to do when you are in the Lion City. i shortlisted the top 6.

1) EAT == CRYSTAL JADE, JUMBO, HOLLAND VILLAGE, BENDEMEER MARKET, KATONG, JALAN BESAR, CHOMP CHOMP, CHINATOWN, MAXWELL MARKET....

---> FOR MORE, CHECK IT OUT OVER HERE OR GO GET MAKANSUTRA

2) Outdoor spa = Spa Botanica

3) Party till the wee hour!!! of Course! == zouk, i heard about one rochester (some wine bar thingy), MOS, club momo, thumper (yoo edwin! you say you going to bring me there when i get back), brewerkz, WALA WALA <-- my all-time favourite (HOEGAARDEN!!!!!)

the list goes on..

4) Duck tour = i need to brush up on my history on this city

5) Hit Mustafa at 4 in the morning

6) High tea @ equinox

next on the list.

Things from here

if i were to go back singapore.

i will miss Trader Joe's --- my favourite grocery place.
[can someone please franchise this?]

i will miss Target.

i will miss the food network.

i will miss good old authentic mexican food.

i will miss the clear blue sky in tucson.

My GAY buddy

i hear this all the TIME.

MAN+WOMAN NEVER EQUAL PURELY FRIENDSHIP.

WHO SAYS SO????

if you handle it correctly from the start, that friendship will last a lifetime.

me and pete have developed a pretty solid friendship since i got to know him 5 months ago. as time passed, i realised that this guy is a pretty darn loyal person, though at times, he has some ideas and reasonings that i find them hard to comprehend --- typical greek lah --- very pilosophical.

he is one who protects and helps his friends alot, sometimes too much.

yesterday, i told him there's a fricking wasps' nest out at my balcony. the next thing i know.. he came to my place with a broom and ready to destroy them.

he went out to my balcony, with the broom and plastic bags and started destroying the nest. but then.... mission wasn't very successful -- he destroyed the nest but the wasps are still there.

but i told him... you damn solid sia.. because he could have been attacked by these crazy creatures.

back in my secondary school days, i also have a very close friend --- mr zhang hualun.. we do all things together.

we eat lunch together after school, we always hang out together cause of mutual friends, sometimes i see him 7 days a week and yet nothing ever developed..

that is so good + guys gossip less. their world is less complicated than women..

i adore it!

why spend your life waiting or preparing for the storm, and miss the sunshine?

Here comes the bzzzzzzz

there's a wasps' nest out at my balcony..

my life in california is so interesting.. everyday something unexpected will pop out.

Death Anniversary

yesterday was the death anniversary of my beloved laptop.

i was not surprised, mad or shocked cause it's about time... she has served me well for the past 4 years.

but you know me.. there are 4 things i can't live without --- cell phone, internet, food and my bed.

so immediately, after her death, i went over to pete's place to do some consumer research.

during lunch, i went to a few places to check out the deals and prices then came back to the office and did more research on the one that i like.

after work, i went to get my toshiba laptop. efficient sia!

i got a pretty good deal -- $600USD after rebate.

hopefully this one will serve me well too.

& by the way, about the 3rd thing that i can't live without --- food.

debrah was shocked that i can eat so much. eh.. don't see me small small, when i want to eat, i got the stomach of a cow.

sometimes i will go to souplantation (sweet tomato equivalent) for lunch. souplantation is a salad, pasta, dessert buffet style kind of place.

my typical taking will be a plate of salad, followed by a bowl of soup, pasta, then brownie ice-cream [if i'm in a ultra soup mood, i will have 2 bowls of soup].

debrah asked me --- "carol, are you okay? why you eat so much?" --- and that day happened to be the day that mich pissed me off..

i told her i eat the exact same thing when i always come with pete.

pay $7.50; of course must eat till is worth the money.. weight.... hai.. worry about that later..FOOD COMES FIRST.

a LONG story

i have tonned down on my cursings ALOT since meeting the lord.

however, these couple of days, i was so mad that it all came back... my co-workers were shocked that i could curse so much.

don't see that i'm small + i'm asian + i'm a lady == you can kick your ass around me.

you want to play the game, i definitely have all the time in the world to play with you.

i will fight.. even if i go down, i go down as a fighter.

so anyway...

what happened was that that is no direct line in my office. all phone calls go thru the customer service representatives.. and then, they will be transfered over to us.

if the two are not around, most of the time ingrid (business mgr) will pick the phone up.

if she is not around.... then whoever hears it picks it up..

the PROBLEM is that --- NOBODY LIKES TO PICK UP THE DAMN PHONE.

thing got worse yesterday, the 2 customer representatives, ingrid were not around so that left with only Pete, Mich and Me..

whenever the phone rings, they all kay siao never hear OR that they will look at me and expect me to pick it up.. after a while, i got bloody pissed --- nobody wants to do the dirty job so i need to clean up the backside isit????

and what got me into action is mich actually told me in my face that i need to pick up the phone.

wau.. you win big time already loh....you never pick up the damn thing and you come and tell me to pick it up and isit because i'm the analyst and you are the business mgr, you don't have to pick up the phone??

the phone is a small issue but what got me pissed is that... if he doesn't do the shit, don't come and ask me to do it CAUSE -------- he has no right to, he's not my boss and the policy is [frm what i know] that
whoever hears it picks it up .

so he wants to play boss right... not so easy.. let me go CHECK with my REAL bosses first.

i spoke to my 2 bosses about it to make sure that the policy is clear and explained to them the problem here.

so.. what happened in the end --- my big big boss sent them an email and told them they there is no pecking order as to who's picking up the phone.. whether you are the BM, or whatever, you hear it, pick it UP... ANY QUESTIONS.. go SEE HIM.

pete showed me the email.. hahaha...

when i told debra the problem, she told me to forgive and forget ---- i will forgive but i will not let the thing go.. without a fight.. WHY IS HE SO FULL OF HIMSELF?? i know that if i don't do anything about it.. he will ALWAYS expect others [except him] to pick up the phone..... he better humble himself and stop bossing around.

same thing goes for zidane... i know alot of people say that his actions are stupid..

well if he curses your parents or family so many times in 90 mins.. if you don't do anything..

then

you are a person with no FRICKIN INTEGRITY and a BIG COWARD.

if ONE DAY i get kick ass for standing up for myself or others.. don't blame me.. i got that from my dad..

my cRaZy weeKend ParT 2

HAHAHA

praise the lord.. i came back from the airport and pasadena in one piece; after being behind the wheel for 3.5 hours (about 3 hours back and forth to the airport and driving to pasadena)

i LOVE today and i LOVE pasadena.

i pretty much eat till i drop today and i survived the traffic.

finally, i got to eat my LA-MIEN.

i've been looking forward to this very day.

but you know what.. frankly speaking, their xiao long bao is not as good as those i had in the singapore branch.

but regardless, i am so DAMN ULTRA EXTREMELY happy today.

cause i got 1) to eat my la mien, 2) buy some of my favourite pastries -- do sha bread and egg-tart, 3) see some big-a*s durians, 4) eat zi-ma hu and also 5) catch up with feng yi.

i was shocked when feng yi told me this --- "eh.. carol, you very chinese leh" you so damn excited when you see all these things.

i don't know if i should be happy about this comment -- haha

but after some serious thinking on the drive home..

i think she is right -- i am more chinese than western ---> after 4 years in the united states, i am still very close to my roots. don't get me wrong, i love to eat pasta and i have no problems with burgers and stuff..... but deep down.. i'm a fricking big asian.

thank god for that.

i love to hang out with asians more than ang mohs.. [like today, i was so happy to see so many chinese around; yeah... asians rule!!!] sometimes i cannot stand those AM.. they think they are damn ficking smart.. and i seriously think that they should learn to be more humble --- like us-- asians and they are so so bloody individualistic -- this drive me totally nuts.

anyhow... back to my weekend.

I LOVE TODAY Posted by Picasa

this is what i call a BAKERY SHOP.. americans don't really have such thing.

i went in and ah hem.. being typical singapore, i immediately started grabbing stuff and it got me totally crazy when most of the buns were hot.

how to resist..

heng i don't stay in that area, if not, my parents will see a supersize me when i go back @ year-end

eh yah, that girl looks like louanne from the back.

today is full of surprises..

after walking around, it is time for some tian ping (aka desserts) that's zi-ma hu.. i can't believe that they have it..
with all these around, i don't think i will miss food from home that much..

+ they have gui ling gao, bean curd, walnut hu too.. and sugercane juice -- wau i so excited till i want to fly.

this is a desert shop besides dintaifeng.
Posted by Picasa

see these MONSTERS.... open your eyes BIGGER --- NOT frozen leh..

wau lau, i so damn excited but i never buy cause no one to eat with.

i love it.. i love to go to AUTHENTIC chinese supermarket + + the place is ultra clean.
Posted by Picasa

did i mention to you guys that i CANNOT AT ALL.... ABSOLUTELY NOT find small packet tissues in the regular ang moh supermarket... don't ask me why!

when i saw these in the chinese supermarket, mai du liao... me immediately grab 1 pack
Posted by Picasa

at LONG............... last --- red bean bread, po lo bao & egg-tart. i'm SO.....SO... happy. i will be SO... happy for the rest of the week, to wake up in the morning to my old time favorites. in addition, i think i will have a big smile on my face before i go to bed.

Yummi---O

i take alot of things for granted back in singapore, sometimes i don't even eat these stuff when my dad bought them. now.... i crave for them...

i'm sick of eating cereal and white bread all the time and + most of the stuff here have hydrogenated oil ---- PUI..
Posted by Picasa

before i left, i da bao some pork chop fried rice from dintaifeng.

wau.. the whole packaging abit hip sia

YeS.......... girls and boys..

i hit the beach again this weekend.

mark's not here, i went with dorena and some other families.

shiok man.. but if mark were here, that will be even shioker.

Posted by Picasa

one thing about going out with dorena (or should i say most americans).... is life's always good and comfortable. she brought those chairs, sheets and one big umbrella --- they are so comfortable and + i learned a new trick --- if i want to lie down and watch the wave.. all i had to do i tilt my chair the other way round --- like the above.. WA...LA.. life is good at the beach. Posted by Picasa

the waves... isn't it amazing? i can just stand down there and watch and watch... and ...watch

but after this weekend, it will be a while before i hit the beach again. i had too much sun exposure.. beaches are great in california but if i don't control myself, i'm pretty sure i'm going to kana skin cancer soon.
Posted by Picasa

isn't this a cool car? is a 82 saab --- dorena's car. i love it, so vintage.

we vroooom all the way to newport beach in this. damn classic
--- minus the beach boys songs cause she forgot to bring the cds.

ciao.. people..

it is back to the work-your-a*s off week again.

raNdom sTuff

nothing really big these days.

there are alot of small little things to write about and i don't know when to begin.

since i came back here from tucson last weekend, i have been slammed with work. time just flew by. there are alot of deadlines to meet. tension and pressure are building up... but i kind of like it.

i need some pressure, if not i'll just slack. sometimes when things get slow, i give myself the pressure instead. this is to push myself. also, i have learned to deal with pressure in a positive way.. instead of letting it get over you, i'll just laugh.. laughter is the best medicine. what for sulk, work still need to be done regardless. yah, yah.. sometimes i do admit i'll curse abit, but then, the most important is to stay on top of it..

also, thank God, i have got a bunch of crazy people in the office... to keep each other sane. de young is soon going nuts with whatever we have on hand but... we laughed alot these days.. more than usual.. that's the way to go..

---------------------------------------

i got pissed with pete last friday cause he got agitated at me for a very small matter ---- just because i told him the wrong age of the new business manager. when the new BM 1st came in for an interview, through my side view, i thought he's in the early 30s, but when he 'officially' came into the office, he introduced himself and told us that he's in the 40s..

then... pete got pissed cause to him --- he had trusted me but i failed him.

simi sai is that.. i can't stand when people get angry for no reason and furthermore, is for the most ridiculous thing... c'mon.. the world is complex enough, why get mad over small little things..

but then... is PEACE now.. we have 'kissed' and made up since.

---------------------------------------

i read mr brown's article on TODAYonline. mediacorp press has suspended his column 'indefinitely'.

why? because he critised the government.

for --- rising
cab fares, price of whatever THEY can think of after the election.

what's the reason for progressive package? to help singaporeans deal with all these price increase isit?

well, in a way i can understand the increase cause the oil of price is indeed going up but why suspend the column? is that how the government think they can shut people off?

the other day... i was thinking hard about this matter..

singapore is a cosmopolitan city. i do admit our government has run the city well but i don't think they are handling this matter well..

i just gave them a new name --- the NEw AgE c*******t [fill in the blank yourself]

---------------------------------------

oh yah, by the way, according to UK-based new economics foundation -- singapore is voted the LEAST happy nation in asia..

ha.. don't know whether want to laugh anot..

so true.. so true..

talk to so many of my friends in singapore.. very few of them seem to be truly happy.

life seem to be tough back on the island.. i think the government need to spend time working this out then.. to suspend mr brown's column

ByE ByE WORLD cup..

by the way..

most americans don't like soccer. to them, this is a boring sport and they think that it is a waste of time to watch.

eh.. hallo hallo.. sometimes these people are really living within their 50 little states.

they have the baseball world series --- what? world series when they are the only country playing.

they are crazy over superbowl --- yawn... yah with what??? about 140 viewerships; all from err... here.

okay... here comes the statistics of world cup..

1) more than 1 billion people tunned in to watch.

2) the games were telecast in 213 countries, according to FIFA.

3) pretty much, the world is into this game -- south america, europe, asia ... with the exception of you know LAH.

the MOST favourite word TODAY --- WHY?

more than 24 hours has passed.

AND

--------------------------

I'M STILL UPSET.

why? how did the heck materazzi provoke zidane?

You're StiLL the man!

the ShAke

holly WA-molly again

i felt an earthquake.. don't worry, is a small little one; but i felt it.. i just checked---- 3.8 magnitude.

i was @ my laptop and then suddenly, my hands started to shake. i'm like what the heck.. i looked at my hand and then realised eh.. not my hand, my laptop also shaked abit.. that's kind of interesting..

but no biggy... i'm okay:)

gOOd & bAd

holly WA-molly..

this stuff down here is seriously good.

mark's mum brought this over from singapore when they came in may.

i cooked the red curry paste for dinner and yes!! finally i found the paste which has some kick to it and is flavorful.

with all these pastes coming out and they taste as good as the restaurants, even working mums can whip up some marvelicious dishes in no time.

+++ they have no preservatives in them.. LUCKY GOOD!!

at least this helps to brighten my day ---- i can't believe it ---- FRANCE LOST ---- dammit.

i can't believe that zidane knocked that STUPID italian guy on his chest.

i can't believe that he got a red card and HE'S NOT THERE TO TAKE THE PENALTY KICK.

all these really made my sunday sux BIG TIME.

until dancing chef came along.....
